Better Together

Refugee Sponsorship

Who We Are

Better Together Refugee Sponsorship is a collective of Northumberland churches and community organizations who have partnered together to sponsor multiple refugee families fleeing war, violence, and oppression.  Our aim is to help these families begin to rebuild their lives here in Canada, providing them with safety, security, and the confidence to become active and contributing members of our society and communities.

As our name implies, we know that we are better, stronger, and more equipped to achieve our vision of providing sanctuary when we work together to do so.  Our seed was planted in 2014, though it is the past year that has truly seen us bloom.  With 8 churches in the Cobourg/Port Hope region and community organizations across the county working together to sponsor at least 7 families, local businesses supporting with sales and in-kind donations, and a dedicated committee steering our progress, we are setting a precedent of cooperation and collaboration.

We deeply believe this project involves not only the core members of our sponsorship teams and committees, but expands to the communities of Northumberland as a whole, which means we would love to see YOU involved.

Will you partner with us to bring families to safety?

Sometimes in life, you meet a person or a family who makes a huge impact in your life. This is one of those families - Abeer Al Salihi, Mohammad Alsalihi and their daughter, Sama (and son, who is not in the video). This family has had an integral role in helping Better Together settle our refugee families. We are so grateful for them!!! ...
